The horrors of the Mumbai terror attack are back to haunt us as we remember that night next week after one year. After one year, very less seems to have changed. The people are still careless in Mumbai as they were before and back to their Chalta Hai attitude.
The police is still under scrutiny for what they really are. The deaths of the three important police officers who died that night is still a big mystery. The NSG unit that has been set up exclusively for Mumbai is still not ready. Ajmal Kasab’s trial goes on and on as he enjoys the Atithi Deva Bhava tradition of India in jail.
To top it all our politicians are back on the same posts as they were prior to the attack. (R.R. Patil as Home Minister of Maharashtra). So in a way we are back to square one or once again waiting for something to happen.
My personal experience in this has been equally bad. Every time that I go to a mall or a cinema hall my bags are not checked and I am told to move on in spite of me insisting that my bag should be checked. All this is done by just looking at my face and I am told to go. It sounds silly but this has happened to me time and again.
When, I mean when will our guarantors of security understand that it is not written on a person’s face that he or she is a terrorist or a potential threat. What rule applies to one applies to all and this must be followed.
Sadly such a thing is not happening in Mumbai at many public places where a re-run of 26/11 can happen. If security was a concern, then it should me made a bigger concern now. It is better than lighting candles later and crying over things that could have been stopped...much earlier.
